Job Description

CSS is now hiring a Scientist or Engineer for Site Assessment and/or Emergency Response support in Tulsa, OK to support a Superfund Technical Assistance and Response Team (START) contract. Our services are organized into four business lines and several cross-cutting services that we have cultivated through our 32 years of corporate experience. The four business lines are Emergency Response & Disaster Recovery, Environmental, Safety & Health, Earth, Space & Life Sciences, and Natural Resource Management. + Perform as a member of the START site assessment or emergency response team (ERT) providing the EPA client with accurate and pertinent scientific data according to agreed upon methods, procedures, and techniques.

+ Lead or participate in the oversight or removal activities.

+ Use level D-A PPE to make entries into potentially hazardous areas.

+ Calibration and maintenance of a variety of multi-media monitoring and sampling equipment.

+ Document field activities and prepare daily and final reports for EPA client.

+ In-field multimedia sampling.

+ In-field well plugging/well closure.

+ Assist with the writing of technical documents and plans.

+ Provide timely task status reports and other required reports to Project Managers.

+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


+ BS in biology/chemistry/geology/environmental science or engineering.

+ Four to eight years of oil and hazardous materials/waste assessment and emergency response experience.

+ Ability to support oil and hazardous materials emergency assessment and response projects.

+ Data Management, training in and use of scientific methods.

+ Preferred skills – operation and calibration/maintenance of monitoring and sampling equipment typically used in hazardous waste site assessment and response work. Some proficiency in the use of air monitoring and sampling equipment. Abilities include calibration, implementation in field, and interpretation of results.

+ Experience with well plugging/well closure a plus.

+ 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER current certificate and 8-hr refreshers, CPR/First Aid and Blood-borne Pathogen training preferred.

+ Familiarity with Incident Command System (ICS) 100-800.

+ Familiarity/working knowledge conducting Hazard Categorization (HazCat) activities and ability to correctly interpret HazCat data.

+ Working knowledge of EPA/ERT’s Viper and RCMS is helpful.

+ Job requires bending, stooping, lifting, use of technical equipment, and work in inclement environments.

+ Technical writing skills, analysis of data, report preparation, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) use required.

+ Proficient in use of iPad or other Tablet technology.

+ Willingness to participate in the Emergency Response On-Call Program and maintain preparedness for immediate mobilization while on-call.

+ Travel required.

+ Must be eligible to work in the US and have a valid driver’s license.

+ Ability to secure a CMV endorsement for driving a response vehicle.
