Job purpose

The Mycology/Bacteriology Scientist is primarily responsible for, under minimal supervision, the maintenance and manufacture of a variety of BSL-2/3 fungal and bacterial antigen strains used within IMMY’s fungal diagnostic products. This position collaborates heavily with various departments to troubleshoot any issues that may come up during manufacturing. The Mycology/Bacteriology Scientist is also responsible for researching new and/or untried methods. They are encouraged to generate and act on ideas to improve such processes. 


Key duties and responsibilities

· Heavily collaborates with the Raw Materials Manager to monitor raw and WIP inventory and schedule manufacturing to ensure material never goes on internal stockout

· Works closely with Raw Materials Manager to determine schedule for product improvement projects

· In contact with Technical Specialist and QC/QA Director to perform root cause analysis to determine and implement corrective actions for errors and issues as necessary

· Performs microorganism propagation, stock culture maintenance, daily culture transfers and organism preparation

· Large-scale production of fungal antigens through various forms of cultivation, filtration, quantitative analyses, and qualitative validations

· Trains Raw Materials personnel to perform post growth testing and analysis such as: immunodiffusion, enzyme immuno-assay, glycoprotein quantitative analysis, complement fixation, and other qualitative validation techniques 

· Collaborates with the Manufacturing team and Product Line Managers to improve the application of materials in each product line

· Collaborates with Product Development in the manufacture of novel antigens for new products

· Researches and implements new methodologies to improve processes and product quality 

· Must effectively communicate with others, be approachable, have a positive and flexible attitude, display a strong work ethic, and demonstrate the ability and desire to teach others

· Comply with all company policies, procedures, internal and external quality standards, and regulatory standards

· Any other duties as assigned



Required qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field 

· 2+ years of experience working in a lab

· 1+ years of experience in a BSL-2/3 setting and demonstrated ability to use aseptic technique

· Excellent data analysis skills

· Excellent leadership, teamwork, effective communication, time management, and troubleshooting skills

· High attention to detail

· Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel


Desired qualifications:

· Advanced degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field

· Experience in an ISO 14971, ISO 13485, and/or FDA regulated environment

· Familiar with Lean Six Sigma principles
