Description
This training program and curriculum is designed to provide participants with hands-on, practical skills that closely mirror real-world biopharmaceutical and bio lab industry environments. The program is built around two certificate tracks: a 5-day (1 week) General Biopharmaceutical Bootcamp and a more intensive 15-day (3 week) Advanced Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing program.
In the 1-week General Biopharmaceutical Bootcamp, participants are introduced to industry terms, processes and technologies and complete activities while engaging with a wide array of industry-standard lab equipment. They learn to:
- Operate general analytical lab equipment (such as pH/conductivity meters and UV/VIS spectrophotometers)
- Practice aseptic technique both at bench and in biosafety cabinets
- Properly gown for cleanroom operations and sample for environmental monitoring
- Buffer/Solution preparation and sterile filtering
- Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) including Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
The 5-day (1 week) General Biopharmaceutical Bootcamp is designed to provide the introductory knowledge and initial hands-on lab experiences for the following industry “support” roles:
- Lab Technician (entry level)
- Entry level Solution (Buffer) Prep Associate
- Quality Assurance Specialist
- Quality Control Technician
- Warehouse Technician
The 3-week Advanced Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing certificate program builds on the foundational skills covered in the General Biopharmaceutical Bootcamp, introducing more sophisticated techniques and equipment related to industry processes, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC). Participants gain experience with:
- Performing cell culture processes, including media preparation, thawing of cells and cell growth in flasks
- Assembling and operating benchtop bioreactors, including inoculation and harvesting
- Sampling of cell cultures and performing in-process testing like cell counts and bioprofile analysis
- Purification processes like tangential flow filtration and various chromatography techniques
- Operation of multiple analytical testing technologies for protein analysis
- Exposure to emerging technologies like single-use bioreactors
- Demonstrations on, and exposure to, actual pilot-scale/production equipment
The 15-day (3 week) Advanced Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing certificate program is designed to provide a higher level of knowledge and more in-depth hands-on lab experiences for the following industry manufacturing roles:
- Lab Assistant/Technician (entry level)
- Research Associate (cell culture or purification subject matter)
- Manufacturing Associate (entry level)
