Instructional Program (CIP)

Health Information/Medical Records Technology/Technician. 510707

Description

While our patients don’t often see us, we see our patients in a way no other healthcare professional does.  That is because health information management (HIM) professionals ensure that sensitive health stories remain accurate, accessible, protected, and complete-at all times.  HIM professionals care for patients by caring for their medical data.

Career options for the Health Information Technician include clinical coding, revenue integrity specialist, clinical data specialist, health data analyst and patient information coordinator.  Graduates work in hospitals, physician offices, ambulatory care, long-term care/rehabilitation, psychiatric, state and federal health agencies, professional review organizations, insurance companies, educational settings, vendors, pharmaceutical companies and consulting firms.

This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIM).  Graduates are eligible to take the national qualifying examination for certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
