Instructional Program (CIP)
Description
The PTA program is a 1+1 model, with students completing pre-requisite and general
education courses during the first year of the program, then entering into the technical
coursework during the second year. The total length of the program is 5 semesters. The
program utilizes a hybrid curriculum model of a traditional and a case-based educational
approach. During the first year of the program and the first portion of the technical
program, a more traditional model is used, moving toward a case-based approach near the
end of the curriculum. The coursework and clinical education courses are presented in an
organized sequence to build upon foundational content, developing the ability of the
student to apply theory and scientific inquiry to the application of dynamic patient care in
a competent manner by the completion of the program. Foundational skills and theory are presented prior to presenting students with higher critical thinking tasks. The clinical education courses are designed to present students
with opportunity to apply skills and reinforce knowledge gained in didactic coursework previously
learned.
