STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Under close supervision, performs the tasks associated with the maintenance, construction and repair of the City streets and right of ways.

Performs the tasks associated with the maintenance, construction and repair of City streets and right of ways; maintains street safety for the community and promotes employee safety and construction of sound and attractive roadways and structures; operates light equipment and machinery; verifies equipment is working properly; prevents damage on streets caused by flooding, erosion and nuisance pests.
Performs trenching, site excavation, installation of curb, gutters and storm drains, and distributes base rock and other paving materials; hauls sand, gravel, topsoil, asphalt and tack oil to and from work sites; removes debris in storm drains, creek beds, flumes and streets; clears excess undergrowth and hazardous material from roadways and eliminates pests; repairs potholes; maintains signs to ensure driver safety; participates in digging and backfilling of ditches, trenches, and holes; installs drain pipes; sweeps streets; installs and maintains signs for visibility; delivers barricades and/or cones; removes ice when needed; transports equipment to and from worksites as required.
Operates a variety of generally utilized hand tools and equipment; performs preventative equipment maintenance; responds to emergency calls for service and repair; implements safety procedures to be used during street maintenance and repair; gathers and distributes various tools as required for specific assignment, clean up included; responds to customer inquiries and/or complaints, undertakes repairs and/or advises appropriate authorities regarding source of problem(s).
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of applicable city, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, and laws governing street maintenance, repair and construction.
Knowledge of the use of street maintenance tools and equipment.
Knowledge of principles and practices of street maintenance.
Knowledge of occupational safety guidelines.
Skill in repairing and maintaining street maintenance equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Work may require frequent standing, walking and bending. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, dangerous machinery and repetitive motion.
A high school diploma or equivalent, AND one (1) year experience in street maintenance, repair and construction; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to acquire and maintain an Oklahoma (Class B) Commercial driver’s license within six (6) months of being hired.
