  1. Summary

The Oklahoma City VA Health Care System (OKC VA HCS) is seeking a
full-time Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) for the Surgical
Department located at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic in
Lawton, Oklahoma.

  1. Responsibilities

The incumbent provides comprehensive orthopedic specialty care at
the Lawton,OK Community Based Outpatient Clinic (part of the OKC VA
Healthcare System). Duties will include, but are not limited to:

- Performs physical evaluations, including post-op and follow-up
- Performs history and physicals for surgical patients.
- Administers injections.
- Obtains Veterans relevant health and medical information.
- Screens surgical candidates for health and medical risk factors.
- Formulates Veterans treatment plan.
- Orders and/or performs screening and diagnostic tests and
procedures (lab studies, x-rays, electrocardiograms, audiograms,
pulmonary functions tests, etc.)
- Provides health education and counseling to Veteran and family

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position is
eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student
loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must
meet specific individual eligibility requirements, and submit your
application within four months of appointment. The final award
amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years)
is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be
appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens
in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Graduate of a PA training program, or of a
surgical assistant program which is accredited by the
Accreditation Review
Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or
one of its predecessor organizations; and a Bachelor’s degree
from an accredited PA training program or in another health
sciences related field from an accredited college or university
recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education.
- Certification: Current and continuous certification by the
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
(NCCPA). NOTE: Recent PA graduates who are eligible to take the
Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) may
be employed by the VA on a temporary basis (38 U.S.C. 7405), for
a period of not to exceed two years, as provided in VA Handbook
5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section G, Paragraph 5.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in written
and spoken English.

Preferred Experience: Two years midlevel experience in a
surgical clinical setting preferred.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual
grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in
the range of GS-08 to GS-13.

Physical Requirements: Position requires moderate to heavy
lifting and carrying, pushing, walking and standing for extended
periods, ability for simultaneous rapid and mental and muscular
coordination, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4
(one eye, glasses permitted), ability to distinguish basic colors,
emotional and mental stability; hearing aid permitted. Incumbents
may experience exposure to blood and body fluids.
