  1. Job Summary

The Division of Engineering Technology’s Academic Advisor serves as an integral member of an administrative team that provides support to the department’s students and faculty. Through recruitment, orientation and academic advising this position demonstrates a clear knowledge of university, college, and departmental academic policies and procedures while offering direction to students regarding DET’s four academic programs (CMT, EET, FPST, MET), course sequence, prerequisites, degree progress, and graduation checks. DET’s Academic Advisor aids in reconciling OSU and CEAT resources while facilitating student academic success, including mentoring students in related personal challenges and concerns and informing them of internship and career opportunities. Assist with administrative duties, special projects, meetings, and events.

  1. Position Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Two years experience in an academic setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook. An ability to learn, and adapt to, new and evolving programs and software. The flexibility to maintain office hours consistent with advising and mentoring demands, particularly during heavy enrollment periods.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage projected deadlines. A proactive and positive attitude, as a participant in a diverse, team-oriented environment, demonstrating initiative, creativity, and the desire to assist students in achieving success at OSU and beyond. The capacity and integrity to manage students’ personal and confidential information appropriately.


Master’s degree in Higher Education Academic Counseling or Advising or related field.
