Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Li Lab seeks a highly motivated individual to join our effort to study fundamental questions in development and aging using the nematode C. elegans as a model. Our research is focused on understanding the stress response pathways and protein quality control mechanisms, which are essential for development and longevity, and underlie human diseases including neurodegenerative disorders and cancer. We utilize both animal and cellular models, and cutting edge technologies in functional genomics, bioinformatics, genetics, molecular and cell biology, and biochemistry.

Our group is located in a newly renovated lab space, and is a member of the rapidly growing Functional and Chemical Genomics Program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City.

Responsibilities will include:
- Maintenance of worm stocks
- Plasmid construction and preparation
- Generating transgenic lines using CRISPR/Cas9 system
- Imaging worms using light and fluorescence microscopes
- Conducting basic molecular biology experiments to assess gene expression and function.
- Detailed documentation of experiments and results
- Participation in lab and departmental meetings

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience.

Familiarity with basic lab techniques. Ability to coordinate day-to-day work, and follow protocols to complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments. Ability to record detailed procedures and results. Familiarity with the internet and Microsoft Office. Excellent communication skills. Willingness to work collaboratively with others, as well as independently in areas of proficiency.

Minimum Degree Required:

Bachelors Degree

Work Hours: Typically Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00, but must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

One or more years of lab experience with animal models (worms, flies, fish, mice, etc.) is preferred. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in: molecular biology (e.g., cloning and PCR), microbiology/sterile technique, microscopy and/or microinjection.
